What to Pack for a Weekend Trip with a Toddler

Even though we have been living in the Boston area for almost ten years, we grew up in Connecticut. This means that at least one weekend a month we are packing up the car and making the 3 hour trek south to visit with family or friends.

When baby girl was three weeks old we made our first trip down as parents for a friend’s baby shower. I am pretty sure I spent over three days packing for that trip, which lasted a grand total of less than 48 hours. Looking back, I blame the hormonal haze and new mom anxiety but I will admit, I was thorough as all heck. I also did myself a solid and made an extensive list of every single item that I brought for future reference.

The list has evolved a ton since those early days because kiddos grow and change so quickly, but here is the general list that I have been using since my little one was 12 months old.

Although this list is helpful, I realize that it could be overwhelming. Don’t let it be! I am here to tell you that you could pretty much forget any item on this list and not only survive but also still have a great time on your trip!

Not once on any trip have I had to pull out the nail scissors or thermometer but it gives me peace of mind knowing that they are there just in case. What happens if you forget your trusty portable monitor? Just make sure you are within earshot and your babe will be completely fine. Wouldn’t the world end if I forgot my travel high chair though? Nope! Sometimes you will have to get creative or messy (or both) but you will find away to make sure your toddler gets fed.

The more often you travel with your little one, the more comfortable and easier it will become. You got this Mama!
